iPresas collaborates in a methodological development for preliminary dam safety assessments in Brazil

The methodology has been published in the last issue of the Brazilian Dam Engineering Journal in february 2019.

The methodology proposed by iPresas in collaboration with GPG (Global Power Engineering) and developed within the PLANERB project (Strategic Actions Plan for the Union`s Dam Rehabilitation) in the period 2017-2018, helps to support preliminary dam safety assessments in Brazil based on the legal classification of Risk and Potential Associated Damage, published in the Law 12.334/10.

The aforementioned methodology includes some modifications on the Risk (CRI) and Potential Associated Damage (DPA) indicators in order to define and prioritize different rehabilitation actions and dam safety investments.
On February 2019, this methodology has been published in the issue number 7 of REVISTA BRASILEIRA DE ENGENHARIA DE BARRAGENS (Brazilian Dam Engineering Journal, ISSN: 2594-7451). It can be found within the article entitled “ADAPTAÇÃO DA METODOLOGIA LEGAL DA CLASSIFICAÇÃO POR CATEGORIA DE RISCO – CRI E DANO POTENCIAL ASSOCIADO – DPA PARA FINS GERENCIAIS” (Adaptation to the legal classification of Risk and Potential Associated Damage Categories from a management perspective).

The article, developed by Marco de Vito, Rafael Ribeiro Silveira and Gertjan Beekman, summarizes the results of the methodology applied to a total of 137 dams.

The publication is available at the COMITÊ BRASILEIRO DE BARRAGENS (Brazilian Committee on Dams) website following the next link.

As part of the project, iPresas developed the iPresas PLANERB software tool. It allows an informed risk management at the portfolio level, the sequence of prioritization actions for each dam (from an individual or portfolio approach), as well as different scenario analyses (current and future cases). Moreover, it allows adding all dam related documentation and accessing to it using a simple interface.
