iPresas was present at MINEXCHANGE 2026 Annual Conference & Expo, one of the leading international events for mining professionals, organised by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration — SME. The conference brought together leaders, specialists and companies from the sector to share knowledge, build professional connections and address the main challenges currently facing the mining industry.
As part of the event’s training programme, iPresas delivered the specialised course “Risk-Informed Tailings Dam Management through Semi-Quantitative Risk Analysis: A Hands-On Simulation Workshop”, a practical session focused on the application of semi-quantitative risk analysis methodologies to tailings dam management.
During the workshop, participants worked on a practical tailings dam case study, simulating a real risk analysis workshop. The training addressed the identification and assessment of potential failure modes, integrating probability, consequence and uncertainty criteria, as well as the proposal of risk mitigation measures. This approach supports risk-informed decision-making and strengthens strategic safety planning for tailings storage facilities.
The course was led by:
Christina Winckler, Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Tailriskreview
Ignacio Escuder Bueno, Founding Partner, iPresas
Adrián Morales Torres, Managing Partner, iPresas
Francisco García Brook, Mining Department Manager, iPresas
In addition to the specialised course, Adrián Morales Torres, Managing Partner at iPresas, participated in the conference’s technical sessions with the presentation “Applying Risk Methodologies to TSFs: Practical Challenges and Lessons Learned”. The presentation was part of the session “Tailings Management: Ground Truths: Where Tailings Risk Meets GISTM and Regulation”, focused on tailings management, the practical application of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management — GISTM — and its relationship with current regulatory frameworks.
iPresas’ participation in MINEXCHANGE reinforces its commitment to sharing advanced technical knowledge and to the continuous improvement of safety in critical infrastructure within the mining sector. Through training initiatives such as this, iPresas contributes to promoting a more robust, transparent and risk-informed approach to tailings dam management.
