From 17 to 20 June, iPresas had the pleasure of attending the XIIISpanish Dam Conference organised by SPANCOLD in Barcelona. The event commenced with a day of technical committee meetings, followed by two days of symposium sessions, and concluded with a technical visit to the La Baells dam.
During the second day, Dr Narjes Soltani, researcher at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and collaborator of iPresas, together with Patricia Trullas from Canal de Isabel II, presented the new numerical stress-strain model for the El Atazar dam developed by iPresas.

This three-dimensional model, formulated using finite differences, aims to improve the prediction of the behaviour of the dam during its operation. The model accurately reproduces the geometry of the site and the structure, integrating daily thermal and mechanical analyses. Data on external variables, displacements, deformations and concrete temperatures have been collected to calibrate the model, which has shown good correlation with real data.
Each numerical simulation generates a periodic report comparing the current state of the dam with the results obtained from the model, complementing the statistical model that has been in use for fifteen years.
The presentation of the numerical model developed for the El Atazar dam was noted for its technical rigour and attracted considerable interest from those present. This project is a clear example of how collaboration between academic institutions and companies can lead to innovative tools that improve infrastructure management. We, at iPresas, congratulate Narjes on her excellent collaboration and outstanding presentation.
