iPresas took an active part in ICOLD Mexico 2026, one of the leading international events in the dam sector, contributing its experience in dam safety, risk analysis, risk-informed design and informed decision-making regarding risk.
During the congress, iPresas was represented by Ignacio Escuder Bueno, Adrián Morales Torres, Francisco García Brook and David Macías Arias, who took part in different technical activities aimed at sharing knowledge, methodologies and international experiences applied to dam safety management.
Course on risk evaluation for dam safety
On 22 May, iPresas delivered the course “Risk Evaluation for Dam Safety”, led by Ignacio Escuder Bueno, Adrián Morales Torres, Francisco García Brook and David Macías Arias.
The course focused on the application of risk evaluation methodologies as a tool to support dam safety management. Throughout the session, key aspects were addressed, including failure mode identification, the estimation of probabilities and consequences, risk evaluation and the use of risk information to support technical decision-making.
These approaches enable owners, operators and responsible authorities to move towards a more structured, transparent and prioritised management of infrastructure safety.
Workshop on risk-informed design and decision-making
On 29 May, iPresas also took part in the workshop “Risk-informed design, risk-informed decision making and dam safety”.
The session addressed the role of risk analysis in the design, evaluation and management of dams, highlighting how risk-informed approaches make it possible to integrate uncertainties, prioritise actions and strengthen the consistency of decisions throughout the infrastructure life cycle.
The workshop underlined the importance of combining technical criteria, probabilistic analysis, expert judgement and risk governance to improve the safety and resilience of dams in increasingly complex contexts.
Technical presentations by iPresas
In addition to the training activities, the iPresas team participated in the congress technical programme with several presentations focused on international experiences, portfolio management, machine learning, investment prioritisation and decision-making under climate uncertainty.
On Tuesday, 26 May, Adrián Morales Torres presented “Development of a System for Dam Safety Management in Mozambique informed by Risk Assessment”, focused on the development of a dam safety management system in Mozambique informed by risk assessment.
On the same day, Adrián Morales Torres also presented “Results of investment prioritization based on risk analysis in 300 Spanish state-owned dams”, which presented results derived from investment prioritisation through risk analysis across a large portfolio of Spanish state-owned dams.
Also on Tuesday, 26 May, David Macías Arias presented “Overview of Risk-Informed Decision Making for Dam Safety Management in Colombia”, a presentation focused on the application of risk-informed decision-making in dam safety management in Colombia.
Ignacio Escuder Bueno presented “A Hybrid Approach by Integrating Numerical Models and Machine Learning for Safety Control of Arch Dams: The El Atazar Case”, addressing the integration of numerical models and machine learning techniques for the safety control of arch dams, using El Atazar Dam as a case study.
On Wednesday, 27 May, Francisco García Brook presented “Decision-Making in Dam Risk Governance Under Climate Uncertainty”, focused on the challenges of risk governance and decision-making in dam safety under climate uncertainty scenarios.
Commitment to risk-informed dam safety
iPresas’ participation in ICOLD Mexico 2026 reinforces its commitment to the development and application of advanced methodologies for risk-informed dam safety.
Through courses, workshops and technical presentations, iPresas continues to contribute to the international exchange of knowledge and to the promotion of approaches that help improve the safety, resilience and sustainability of hydraulic infrastructure.
With this participation, iPresas consolidates its role as a company specialised in risk analysis and risk management applied to dams and critical infrastructure, supporting owners, operators, public administrations and international organisations in risk-informed decision-making.
