iPresas at ICOLD India 2024: Innovation, Knowledge, and Global Leadership in Dam Safety

ICOLD 92nd Annual Meeting and Internacional Symposium

From September 27 to October 3, iPresas had the honor of actively participating in the 92nd Annual Meeting and International Symposium of ICOLD (International Commission on Large Dams), held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India. This event, one of the most important in the sector worldwide, brought together experts, institutions, and companies from all over the world to discuss the latest advancements in dam design, construction, maintenance, and safety management.

Our participation in ICOLD India 2024 reaffirms iPresas’ commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and international collaboration in risk management and the resilience of critical infrastructure.

High-Level Workshops, Courses, and Technical Discussions

Throughout the event, numerous training sessions and specialized workshops were held. iPresas was present at several of them, with special emphasis on the Risk Analysis workshop, coordinated by Adrián Morales, where international case studies were presented on how risk assessment can support decision-making in dam safety. The workshop saw high participation and interest, characterized by an excellent balance between practical application and technical standards.

Papers Presented by iPresas

Within the symposium “Evolving with Modern Technology for the Construction of Dams,” our CEO, Ignacio Escuder, chaired the session and shared technological advancements applied to dam construction. Additionally, Ignacio Escuder, Adrián Morales, and Helena Yarritu co-authored several technical papers aligned with our business lines and expertise:

Dam Safety Management and Engineering

  • Presentation of an improved methodology for the detection of failure modes, going beyond conventional approaches. Presented by Adrián Morales.

  • Development of a stress-strain numerical model for El Atazar Dam (Spain), as a support tool for its operation and management. Presented by Ignacio Escuder.

  • Results of a semi-quantitative risk analysis applied to 55 dams, with direct implications for investment prioritization and maintenance strategies. Presented by Stefan Hoppe, with Adrián Morales as co-author.

Climate Change and Adaptation

  • Assessment of the influence of climate uncertainty on dam safety, a key issue in today’s context of global change. Presented by Adrián Morales, with our collaborator Javier Fluixà as lead author.

Rehabilitation and Infrastructure Improvement

  • Hydraulic characterization of the Quebradona Dam spillway (Colombia) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, highlighting the potential of these tools in rehabilitation processes. Presented by our UPV collaborator Arnau Bayón.
