Inspection and Engineering Analysis of Bodorna HPP (Georgia) for Hydrodiagnostics – 2023

The project consisted of a detailed technical inspection and geotechnical analysis of the Bodorna dam, with the objective of assessing its current condition and overall safety. The dam is a compacted earthfill structure with an approximate height of 7 meters, designed to store water for supply to a downstream water treatment plant, which in turn serves the population of Tbilisi. Given its role in the regional water supply system, special attention was paid to the integrity and behavior of the dam body under both normal operating conditions and potential critical scenarios.

As part of the project, the following studies were carried out:

  • A comprehensive technical inspection of the Bodorna dam, focusing on the visible condition of the dam body, crest, slopes and ancillary elements, as well as identifying any signs of erosion, settlement, deformation or seepage.
  • Analysis of the structural behavior of the dam using stability models, in order to evaluate the safety factors of the slopes and to verify the dam’s response to different loading conditions.
  • Analysis of seepage through the dam body by means of geophysical tests and flow models, aimed at characterizing the internal saturation conditions, identifying preferential flow paths and assessing the adequacy of the existing seepage control measures.

These activities provided an integrated view of the dam’s geotechnical and structural performance and formed the basis for subsequent technical recommendations.
