The project consisted of a comprehensive safety review of the Riogrande II Dam (Colombia) carried out by the Ofiteco–iPresas consortium. The dam is a compacted earthfill structure, 65 metres high from foundation level, and is used for drinking water supply and power generation. As part of the project, the following studies were conducted:
- Updating of basic information studies (geology, geotechnics, hydrology, monitoring, stability, etc.)
- Qualitative analysis through a failure mode identification process.
- Risk assessment through a quantitative analysis, focused on hydrological evaluation and potential internal erosion processes.
- Proposal of improvement measures and evaluation of these measures using the quantitative risk model.
Finally, several risk-reduction measures were identified, contributing to improved dam safety management, as demonstrated through the re-evaluation of risk following their implementation according to the developed quantitative risk model.
