From 27 September to 3 October 2024, iPresas actively participated in the 92nd Annual Meeting and International Symposium of ICOLD (International Commission on Large Dams), held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India.
This event, one of the most prestigious in the sector worldwide, brought together experts, institutions, and companies from across the globe to discuss the latest advances in dam design, construction, maintenance, and safety management.
iPresas’ presence at ICOLD India 2024 reaffirms its commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and international collaboration in risk management and the resilience of critical infrastructure.

High-Level Workshops, Courses and Technical Discussions
Throughout the event, several training sessions and specialised workshops were held. iPresas took an active role, particularly in the Risk Analysis Workshop led by Adrián Morales, where international case studies were presented showcasing how risk assessment supports decision-making in dam safety.
The workshop was well attended and noted for its strong balance between practical application and technical standards
Technical Papers Presented by iPresas
At the symposium “Evolving with Modern Technology for Dam Construction,” our CEO Ignacio Escuder chaired the session and shared insights on technological advances applied to dam engineering. In addition, Ignacio Escuder, Adrián Morales, and Helena Yarritu co-authored several technical papers aligned with iPresas’ areas of expertise:
Dam Safety Management and Engineering
Presentation of an enhanced methodology for identifying failure modes, going beyond conventional approaches. Presented by Adrián Morales.
Development of a stress-strain numerical model for El Atazar Dam (Spain), used as a support tool for its operation and management. Presented by Ignacio Escuder.
Results from a semi-quantitative risk analysis applied to 55 dams, with direct implications for investment prioritisation and maintenance strategies. Presented by Stefan Hoppe, co-authored by Adrián Morales.
Climate Change and Adaptation
- Assessment of the influence of climate uncertainty on dam safety, a key issue in the current context of global change. Presented by Adrián Morales, with our collaborator Javier Fluixà as lead author.
Rehabilitation and Infrastructure Upgrading
- Hydraulic characterisation of the spillway at Quebradona Dam (Colombia) using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, demonstrating the potential of these tools in rehabilitation processes. Presented by our UPV collaborator, Arnau Bayón.

Big News for Spain: ICOLD 2028 Will Be Held in Our Country!
As a grand finale to an outstanding congress, it was officially announced that Spain will host the ICOLD 2028 Congress, organised by SPANCOLD. With a significant 76% of the votes (compared to 24% for the United States), this achievement reinforces Spain’s position as a global leader in dam engineering and risk management.
