On the occasion of the celebration of the XII Spanish Conference on Dams<\/strong> at the Palacio de Congresos de Canarias, Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, from September 27 to October 1, 2021, the iPresas<\/a> team actively participated in the event through the presentation that took place on Tuesday, September 28th, entitled “Incorporating the effects of climate change in the management of dam safety”<\/strong>. This presentation was given by Adri\u00e1n Morales<\/strong>, PhD. in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Technical Director and Partner of iPresas. Together with other experts in the sector, they were able to present the application of risk analysis to the case study of a Spanish dam, including the effect of climate change on hydrological stresses and the availability of water resources.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study has provided valuable new information that complements previous studies of this dam. It concluded that although the situation in the current state of the dam does not present an urgent need for adaptation measures, as risks are generally expected to increase over time, no new adaptation measures are recommended as they would not be justified in the current situation. The case study presented has highlighted the need to incorporate non-stationary effects of climate change into dam safety to optimally reduce risks over a predefined period. Given the effects of climate change are complex and interrelated, tools such as risk models must be used to quantify them in a global and standardized way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
