This event was organised by the International Committee on Large Dams (<strong>ICOLD<\/strong>), the Indian Committee on Large Dams (<strong>INCOLD<\/strong>) and the ICOLD Asia Division, in collaboration with <strong>CWC<\/strong> (Central Water Commission), <strong>DRIP<\/strong> (Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project), and <strong>NHP<\/strong> (National Health Portal of India).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ignacio Escuder<\/strong> (Founding Partner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipresas.com\"><strong>iPresas<\/strong><\/a>) was invited to the event, making a <strong>Keynote speech<\/strong> on advances in dam safety, risk assessment and management, and <strong>two workshops <\/strong>related, respectively, to numerical analysis of dams and Life Extension Technologies and Strategies for Aging Dams.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday the 26th of February Ignacio was the <strong>chairman<\/strong> and keynote speaker at the conference entitled &#8220;<strong>Advances in dam safety, risk assessment and management<\/strong>&#8220;. His presentation focused on the important role that India could play in dam risk governance at a global level. The two working sessions took place on Saturday the 27th of February. The first one (Session 5) focused on the <strong>current challenges for seismic numerical modelling of dams<\/strong>. The second (session 7), of which Ignacio was the <strong>chairman<\/strong>, was aimed at exploring <strong>strategies and technologies to counteract the ageing of dams and extend the life span of these critical infrastructures.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The participation in this symposium, as well as the collaboration in the drafting of several Technical Guides (see <strong>&#8220;<\/strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipresas.com\/en\/ignacio-guidelines-hazard-potential-lndian\/\"><em>Guide for the Classification of Potential Dam Hazard<\/em><\/a><\/strong><strong>&#8221;
