In September, the 17th edition of the course took place in Panama, where our colleagues from iPresas<\/a>, David Mac\u00edas and Gabriela Prado, conducted the final in-person workshop on Disaster Risk Analysis and Climate Change<\/strong> in Infrastructure Projects. This initiative strengthened the capacity of professionals to incorporate risk analysis and climate resilience into the design of infrastructure projects, within the framework of the IDB methodology.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The opening session included interactive activities, such as a Slido dynamic, where participants shared their perceptions of the concept of risk. This exercise highlighted the diversity of approaches and laid the foundation for the collaborative work that characterized the course.<\/p>

The main objective<\/strong> was to strengthen decision-making in infrastructure projects by integrating disaster risk analysis and climate resilience<\/strong> as key elements to ensure safer and more sustainable works.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Five modules, one comprehensive vision<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The course was structured into five progressive modules<\/strong> covering:<\/p>

  • Conceptual foundations of disaster risk management.<\/li>
  • Qualitative risk analysis.<\/li>
  • Quantitative risk analysis.<\/li>
  • Decision-making based on risk analysis and economic feasibility.<\/li>
  • Risk governance and climate change adaptation.<\/li><\/ul>

    In addition, participants applied the knowledge acquired to practical cases, with a highlight being the study of flooding in Tegucigalpa, where river control works on the Choluteca River were analysed from a risk management perspective<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    A guided and practical experience<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

    The programme combined self-paced learning on the digital platform with synchronous sessions with the tutor, fostering both conceptual depth and practical application of the content.<\/p>

    The guided tour of the platform and ongoing interactions with the teaching team created a dynamic and engaging experience, ensuring participants were able to make the most of the course.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    The 17th edition of the ARDNCCPI reaffirmed the importance of having well-trained professionals to face the challenges of climate change and natural disasters in the design and management of critical infrastructure.<\/p>
